9-19-23 THOUGHTS
We read one of the famous psalms this morning. Surely God’s majesty is instantly proclaimed. The psalmist instantly goes to considering, to thinking about the greatness of God. He poses a great question... “What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?” God created us in His Own Image, and put us above all other creation. While this is the gist of the psalm, Heb 2:6-9 ESV borrows from the psalm to bring Messiah into the picture! “But one has testified somewhere, saying, "6 It has been testified somewhere, "What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him? 7 You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, 8 putting everything in subjection under his feet." Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."
It’s a simple and beautiful picture of our insertion into a beautiful eternity. May we rise above the ugly, and remember who we were created to be!
Ps 8:1-9 O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! 2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; 4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? 5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! 6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
My Prayer:
O God of all heaven and earth, thank You for being so wonderfully mindful of us. On the large scale, we have not done well over the years of history. We have not lifted up Your image as we should have. Please, Lord, while we still have time, teach us and help us to do better within our small sphere of activity and thinking. You are Love, O God, may we love with Your love. May we love indiscriminately and passionately as the good news of Jesus becomes our obsession. Help us to lay aside all else as we focus our march to You and eternity. Make us wise in our purpose, O Father. In the name of our blessed Savior, Amen
